 | | •On the Field of Battle•
Late in the August of 1862, Union General John Pope moved his troops toward Manassas Junction to take on what he thought was the bulk of the Confederate force. The troops along Warrenton Turnpike were actually only those forces under the command of General "Stonewall" Jackson, trying to flank his position. Pope was not aware that a massive force of 28,000 men under the command of General Longstreet was massing on his left flank. Preoccupied with their attack on Jackson's dug-in forces, Union taken were taken by surprise when Longstreet mounted the largest mass assault of the war. Pope's army was soon forced to retreat to the safety onf Union fortifications near Centreville, Virginia.
The original chromolithograph was created in 1888 as a premium for Duke cigarette customers. This full color print has the look of a pastel and pencil sketch. It shows "General Lee and his staff overlooking the battle-field."

IMPORTANT NOTE: Unframed pieces are printed on 100% rag, fine art paper. Framed pieces are printed on canvas.
All sizes are approximate. Because they are taken from authentic antiques, very few pieces are exact "standard sizes" and will, generally, require custom framing (which we offer at very reasonable prices - see below).
Due to the INCREDIBLY high shipping prices charged for OVERSIZE shipping, shipping charges may be higher than quoted for items that measure more than a total of 70" (matted height + width). For example a matted piece measuring 32" x 40" would be considered OVERSIZE (72"). For complete delivery information, see Information page.
