• Watering the Horse •
This photograph shows Red Hawk of the Oglala Sioux watering his horse at an oasis in the Badlands in South Dakota. Red Hawk fought with Crazy Horse against Custer at Little Big Horn. He lived to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Battle in 1926.
Edward S. Curtis is considered to be one of the finest photographers of the early 20th century. For almost 30 years, beginning in 1900, Curtis traveled the West with his camera, intent on documenting the vanishing traditions and lives of various Native American tribes. Curtis was able to capture images that provide a rare glimpse into the life of the American Indians. This sepia-toned replica has been created to match the look and feel of the original prints sold by Curtis almost 100 years ago.
